Step-by-Step Guide to Download and Install MobaXterm for Windows

MobaXterm is a powerful terminal for Windows that provides a wide range of networking tools, including SSH, RDP, and FTP. Follow these steps to download and install MobaXterm on your Windows machine.

Step 1: Download MobaXterm

  1. Open your web browser and go to the official MobaXterm website:

  2. Click on the "Download" button in the top menu.
  3. You will see two versions available:
  4. MobaXterm Home Edition (Free)
  5. MobaXterm Professional Edition (Paid)
    If you don’t need advanced enterprise features, select the Home Edition.
  6. Click on "Download now" under the Home Edition.
  7. On the next page, choose either:
  8. Portable edition (No installation required, runs directly from the extracted folder).
  9. Installer edition (Recommended for easy installation).
  10. Click the Download button and wait for the file to finish downloading.

Step 2: Install MobaXterm

  1. Locate the downloaded file (MobaXterm_Installer_vXX.X.zip).
  2. Double-click the file to see the installation files.
  3. Open the zip file and copy on the any temporal folder.

  4. Double click on the MobaXterm_Installer_vXX.X.msi

  5. Click on Next and accept terms.

    Note: If prompted by User Account Control (UAC), click Yes to allow changes.

  6. Accept the license agreement.

  7. Choose the installation directory (or leave it as default).
  8. Click Install and wait for the process to complete.
  9. Once installed, click Finish.

Step 3: Launch and Configure MobaXterm

  1. Open MobaXterm from the Start menu or Desktop shortcut.
  2. In case Windows security ofr X11 server, click on Allow.
  3. On the first launch, you may see a welcome screen. Click OK or Continue.
  4. Click on Session
  5. Select what kind of session you want.

RDP session

a. Select the option for RDP and type remote host, and username (optional). b. Enter password c. (Optional) Right click on the tab with the RDP session and click on "Detach tab" to have it as window. d. (Optional) Click on "Fit to window size" to fill the whole window.
